Reading -The Cay, E-portfolio Sample - Comprehension

Write an “ITTM” for the following sentences:

After a moment of silence, I heard the sizzle of the water as Timothy doused the torch.

I think that means um there had been a second of no noise before Philip listened to the second main protagonist put out the fire on a stick in the water with a BBQ like noise.

For more than a week, I knew he had been labouring over nails to turn them into fish hooks.

I think that means for longer than seven days Philip knew that timothy had been turning sharp spikes into hooks to catch fish.

Roadblocks! There were many roadblocks for us in this book! Choose at least two of the following words to explain and ‘clear the roadblock’ for.

Alabaster -  a type of mineral.

Cay - small island in the middle of the ocean.

Jumbi - A bringer of bad luck.

Langosta - a type of lobster.

Malaria - a fever .

Write down at least three things Phillip learnt whilst on the cay (for example, about himself, caring for others and life etc)
Philip learnt how to fish.He also learnt how to use his other senses more independently and that skin colour doesn't matter.

Week 7 Production blog post

1. How well have I contributed to my group this week?I have contributed well to my group by

giving ideas to the rest of the group.My ideas are mainly about kicking and punching.

2. My favourite idea for the production is?
My favourite idea is where we split to the side and pretend to slice each other.
The best part about it is that we can kick or punch our way to the other side then leave
the stage.

3. A person in my group who has shown one of our values is? Holly F has shown the value brave by
   taking up the challenge of being the lead Samaria when everyone thought she should.
   She also contributed well to the group by putting out good ideas.

LEARNING INTENTIONS:

• Check accuracy and the meaning of text whilst reading (ITTM)
• Use prior knowledge and context to confirm author's meaning of words and phrases

When using the “I think that means” strategy, what do you have to do?
You have to put the sentence into your own words. You have to convince the teacher you
know what the sentence means and read it fluently.

How would you get a “3”?
In order to get a 3 you must convince the teacher that you know what the sentence
means and not parrot the words. You also have to keep this up for the entire sentence.

What is a roadblock? A word that you do not know and in order to clear it you  could
go on google and search up the definition. Before you check on google, you should try
to work out what it means by words inside it.
